Help finding more information on a potential purchase

Hello all,

I am in the market for my first high/higher end watch for my wedding and have found this 1955 CK2792 Seamaster with a brown/burgundy dial but I can not find another watch like it anywhere.

The description has some inconsistancies which make me suspicious, although the watch is in Italy and so I assume English is their second language. The description describes it as "Omega Jumbo 2792 model chronometer with a 36mm case", the information list says it is a "Speedmaster" with a 35mm case and the title as "CK 2792 Jumbo Spider Lugs 1955 RARE Brown Dial Seamaster".

I can't find any signs of a 2792 with a burgundy dial outside of this listing, what are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Fantasy dial, overpolished case. If you look for originality, run away.

Thanks for the reply. I love the look of it but almost £1500 for a Frankenstein watch with no mention of such seems really sketchy

I asked them about this and they said the dial is original and was "restored and brought towards this shade"...

Some dealers use “restored” which they must think sounds better than “redialed” but it is the same, and generally to be avoided. Check in again before buying good work.

Any idea how the dial would be original but a completely different colour?

The original dial was repainted a different color. The seller is playing semantic games with you.

Thanks for all your help, sorry for my very basic questions. I may just low ball him at £500 to see

For that watch not a lowball I would pass on this one at any price.

Let me try to be more clear because you are missing the point.

500 GBP would be enormously overpaying. Do not waste your money on this piece of crap, it's not worth any more than 100 GBP for parts.

Could you explain why? Is there something inherently wrong with it or just not a collectors piece?

The only value that old watches have is due to their collectible value. Without that, they are just cheap parts. A watch like this has no collectible value and will also work poorly or stop working, requiring a further investment of several hundred more to service/repair it. Then you will have invested real money in something that has no value, i.e. cannot be sold.

You said you wanted a high end watch, not a piece of junk.

In addition, the hands are in very poor condition. If you did buy this, that is all you would notice. I guarantee it.

Perhaps I'm weird for liking the wear on the hands. I agree the contrast between them and the rest of the watch is quite large
