Hello to all the wonderful people from the Omega Forums. I can't thank anyone enough for all the help they have given and information they have provided me with!

I am down to my final two watches. AND I have run out of time. So I MUST purchase a watch tomorrow (deadline).

For those who are unfamiliar, I have been searching for the perfect vintage watch for my boyfriend. I chose to definitely go with an Omega, and had my heart set on a Constellation Pie Pan Dial. One kind member offered me one which I immediately love the look of. In fact I really love everything about the watch except for a small spec on the dial that is distorting the writing of "chronometer" by a bit. Otherwise to me the watch is fantastic. It was also just serviced in August. The Seller has also been kind enough to offer me to refund this watch if I am not completely satisfied.

On the other hand I was offered a Seamaster, (Photos attached) by another respected member of this forum. Even though I had my heart set on a constellation, the condition of the seamaster appears exceptional to my untrained eyes. I'm also attracted to this one because I know my Boyfriend prefers dark dials to light ones.

All in all, when I started my hunt I knew that condition was my number one target, so really I just want to know what everyone thinks. Is there an obvious winner? What would you all prefer to receive as a gift. (Note: This will be his first Omega)

I HAVE to make my purchase tomorrow morning, no if ands or buts, so please try to get answers to me ASAP so I can get the ball rolling and hopefully get my hands on one of these watches sooner than later!

Thank you all, I appreciate everyone time and help! :)

Both are really nice. Tough choice.

    I'd buy the Connie, though.

For me it would be the Seamaster...condition wise I believe it is a little better and has a more interesting black dial. Value wise they are almost the same.

Flip a coin. He will enjoy either. I'll take the one you don't buy. :D

This is getting way more complicated that it needs to be. Please go with the Seamaster. Respectfully, I'm out. After 4 pages of conversations, agreeing to hold it for a month, agreeing to take it back if it didn't work for you (which after we hit 3 pages worht of posts seemed very likely), declining another offer for it, driving this watch around on my car for the last four days, waiting for payment that never came, and now this, it is just too much.

    Best wishes, happy holidays.

Very very tough call. I love Seamasters especially with the second dial but the Connie is beautiful. I'm not a big dark dial fan and would probably go with the Connie (if my watch fund weren't empty I'd want the name of the Connie seller)

You answered the question saying your boyfriend likes dark dials.

I say go with neither and to whoever is offering the seamaster, PM me. It's obvious that the OP isn't going to make a decision and you're going to be hung with it like devnull.

That's really not very nice of you to say. I have made a decision. out of the thousands of watches I've seen I've narrowed it down to two. I really don't understand where all the negativity is coming from all of a sudden.

I'm just trying to find the perfect present for someone special. And this is something I know nothing about. I literally have waited till the last minute to purchase to make sure I'm making the right decision.

Everyone knows both watches could sell in seconds so I don't see why I am getting so much attitude about it.

I probably shouldn't have kept it to pm but oh well, what's done is done.

I would say that the reaction is from the fact that this sort of transaction imposes a degree of responsibility on both parties. I don't mind being accommodating, but there comes a point where it could be argued that you may have, inadvertently, taken advantage of my good will.

I don't think you did this on purpose, and pretty please do not take offense of what I'm saying (conveying tone on a post can be tricky) but when there is a significant amount of money on the table both parties like to enjoy a degree of certainty.

It was a good idea to come here as you've been offered two nice watches. I'd imagine your boyfriend would be thrilled at the amount of effort you've put in and the responses here as well as the efforts of the two Gents who've tried to get you something you wanted. It is hard to come to a decision when you're buying one watch and it's a significant investment.

I'd take the Seamaster personally as it has more of an immediate wow effect for someone who likes dark dials. The Connie is a bit more subtle and delicate looking and is likely not such a safe bet but, you'll have more of an idea of what he really likes. He's a lucky Guy, either way.

I'm fortunate to have two very similar watches so, they both clearly appeal to me ;)

    Cheers, Chris

I'm probably too late to the party and the purchase has already been made. Nevertheless, here are my thoughts.

When I see the word "CHRONOMETER" on a watch dial, it suggests to me that the watch (at least at the time of manufacture) is intrinsically a better time keeper. The movement was likely put together with better formed and machined components, and it was tested and certified to meet a certain time keeping standard. So, all other things being equal, the watch started out as something special with respect to its level of mechanical precision.

And aesthetically, the case back for the Constellation is really, really cool compared to the Seamaster.

Am I reading this correctly in the seller of the Constellation is now withdrawing his watch, which makes OP decisions making a hell of a lot easier now!

It's interesting how no one has commented on the fact that the spec is altering the writing of 'chronometer' on the dial?

Is that not as big of a concern as I believe it to be? From my understanding it is not a fixable problem, an kind of annoying to look at if it looks that way in person as well...

My easily decision would be the Seamaster Constellation rather than a "normal" Seamaster...

Plus... pan pie & the back look definitely better to me

If you like all the other aspects of the watch, the speck on the dial is merely a beauty mark :)
