    Hi everyone,

I'm new here but am trying to add an Omega Speedmaster 105.012 66 CB into my collection (eventually). I've found a few by looking online (mostly through Chrono24), and needed some advice because, well, I don't want to buy something inauthentic.

Here are the links to the two I was looking at:

    https://www.chrono24.com/omega/speedmaster-professional-moonwatch--id5862992.htm

    http://www.retrovintagewatch.com/om...re-cb-case-105.012-vintage-1966-pre-moon.html

Generally I see these going for like $12,000+ so I'm wondering why these are cheaper than average.

    Thanks

Second one has an incorrect bezel as the dot is next to 90.

The first one looks ok though... can you get any additional pics, maybe in sunlight?

Well, boy am I glad I asked. I will certainly check about the sunlight picture.

    What's a DNN?

If you don't know about a DNN then you are not ready for a 321 Speedy...seriously. You are talking some real cash and you need to do your research before you possibly get burned.

I appreciate the honesty and totally understand. I wasn't ready to jump into these without doing my due diligence, but ill read the site above and figure it out and come back if I have specific questions.

    Thanks for the help!

If you're going to get into speedies, you probably need a copy of Moonwatch Only too.. A bible of sorts...

Take your time. Sp101 is your undergrad then follow it up with your masters with MWO.

The minutiae, like dots on bezels, steps on case backs, dial colouration, hand style etf etc etc make a huge difference to value.

    There's a lot to learn.
I suggest you take your time and enjoy the chase in finding the 'right' Speedy for you.
It's not just about the watch being totally 'correct'. It's often also about historical 'moon' significance and which reference appeals to you most.
    Have fun and good luck.

With regard to the Chrono24 ad; It still amazes me that a vendor would offer any item worth $10,000 plus with such poor quality pictures. They go to all the trouble of setting in up in the box with the lovely cushion and then take bad photographs with the details of the dial obscured by reflected light??? For goodness sake! This watch collecting malarky is all about detail!

I bought a £20 'tom tom' drum off of Gumtree in the UK a couple of weeks back. A £20 cash deal (which involved me actually collecting the item) and the bloke took clearer photographs than the ones for that $10k watch.::confused2::

Yeah, that seriously confused me. They aren't the only ones, too. I'm already nervous just getting something online, let alone with shabby pictures...

On that note, when I am ready to purchase, where do you recommend I start looking? Do you know any dealers in the US that generally sell them at their stores (I noticed some may exist although they may not always have something in stock)? Obviously I would keep an eye out on these forums.

Does it have to be a 105.012?

If it can also be a 145.012, you can try to persuade @watchknut into selling you the one he has listed as a WTT here on omegaforums.

That one looks like a bulls-eye.

A lot of people are persuading...but no one has a Rolex they want to part with. Normally I would pounce on the generous offers, but the condition of it makes me want to hold out for the right trade or just hold onto it. IMG_20170207_100418_229.jpg

I did see his post and wanted to suggest that because, well in the ideal world, I'd get both. But if I had to choose I'd still lean towards the 105.012 for the CB case first only because I've seen it in person once and it's been on my mind ever since. Plus it's harder to come by and I value that a lot, so if I'm saving up for the first one I'd rather go all out. Don't know if that makes sense... but yeah I'd anticipate getting both eventually

I like to think I have a 145.012 in almost similar condition (albeit with a little more lume loss and a 1116 instead of a 1039 bracelet).

It's so neat that I am considering getting a less stellar bezel, just to be able wear to it a little more carelessly.

    Sorry for the hijack ::shy::
