    Hi there,

does anybody has some information about very early (around 1940) Longines disco volante/flying saucer watches? Just went through my Marozzi / Toselli book and the rare watches of Goldberger on Youtube, but couldn´t find any pics at all.
Mr.Google wasn´t my friend on the research either...

So if you have any pics/adverts/information I would be pleased if you could share it with me.

    Thx in advance
    Georg

    Hi George,

    like that?
    20190326_182233.jpg

Found that one two years ago and liked the unusual case design. Is is 33 mm has a 10.68z inside and was invoiced to UK in 1940 according to Longines.

    Lars,

Yes, many thanks, exactly like that! Yours is a fantastic looking watch. I'm very surprised that it is so hard to find any information about these Longines flying saucer watches. Are they as rare?
I have a very similar incoming in the next days and I'm already super excited. Always wanted a disco volante in my small collection, and Longines made extraordinary cases in these days.
I will post some pics as the watch has arrived (Fingers crossed).
What do you think about the hour and minute hands on your watch? Are they original to the watch?
    As said before, fantastic watch!

What a fantastic example, you shouldn't have sold that.
Beautiful pic, but to this watch belongs a strap. Just looks great as a Pocket watch, but even more interesting and better as a wrist watch;)

    Hi Georg,
I think these are the original hands as the dial is with radium, their size is spot on and the style is period correct. Just the lume itself has been renewed at some point of time. Have you received your "disco volante" already?
    Another shot of mine:

Yes, the watch just arrived today. Just like a drawer find should look like... What a watch!
After unboxing and a fast first cleaning here some quick pics...
I will go to see my watchmaker on Monday to get it opened for movement shots and caseback/serial number...

@valjoux72 I was just trying to find an old picture of a different watch and spotted this in one of my folders. It was, from memory, listed somewhere very obscure and sold for pennies. Do you think this a Longines, case looks a lot like the one @yako54 has.

@w154 number 4  when I found mine I thought the same and was unsure if everything fits together, but Longines confirmed with an extract. Interesting point, mine and the one from @Modest_Proposal share the same batch no. 1957. I bet the one from @valjoux72 also does...

Aargh I’ll regret not buying it now.... another one to add to the long list of missed opportunities !

And I’m sure when I saw it that i never made the connection with Longines otherwise I’d have been all over it. I’ll go and see if I can track down where I spotted it and what it sold for.

Funny as I remember seeing too and being tempted!
But the ressemblance doesn’t mean it’s Longines ... watch manufacturers in those days used similar cases and designs even across brands...
    Can’t have it all!

Well spotted David! I´m quiet sure that it might have been a Longines. You can see something like a dial signature on the first pic...
Black dial with golden Breguet numerals... wow. All four DV watches shown in this thread are amazing, all quite different in dial designs but every fantastic on its own...
The Omegas flying saucers are much bigger and the UG discovolante I saw had slightly different case designs...
