·This is a question I've gone back and forth over since I first got my 300 Master Co-Axial at the end of 2015, rekindled once Omega announced the Trilogy in 2017, and now with the announcement of the new 300 a few weeks ago -- whether to keep my trusty 300 as-is; swap it out for a Trilogy; or replace the bracelet with the new one (if that works) Thoughts and pictures below and advice wanted!
I have a ~6.75 inch wrist. When I first bought my 300 five-ish years ago, I found it a bit thick, but loved the mix of the retro style and ceramic bezel, and rationalized that I could pull off a 41mm watch. In the years since, I've gravitated toward smaller pieces.
Then, when Omega announced the Trilogy in 2017, I was very interested -- the Trilogy Seamaster, with its 39 mm diameter and thinner case was very appealing.
Over the years, I tried the Trilogy Seamaster, but it never quite "clicked" -- the smaller diameter is nice, but it still felt thick for its size. I also prefer the cut-out markers and Liquidmetal bezel of the 300MC, along with the less aggressive fauxtina. Then, when I heard that the 300 would be updated, I figured I would sit tight, hoping that Omega might bring down the diameter closer to the Trilogy. To be honest, I'm not wild about the 300 redesign -- I don't like the cut-out numerals, and the bezel feels like a downgrade. But, the new bracelet looks like a big improvement, as they replaced the protruding endlinks with ones that would wrap a wrist like mine a lot more nicely. And I realized that, more than anything else, it's those pesky endlinks that make the 300MC wear large on my wrist:
So now, I'm thinking about just swapping out the bracelet with that of the new 300 -- if, of course, that works. Which no one seems to know! And if it doesn't, I still feel like the diameter of the Trilogy is better suited to my wrist. From certain perspectives, the 300MC seems to wear larger than its 41mm, irrespective of the endlinks:
To my surprise, my local OB still had a Trilogy in stock, so I went to try it on recently (for the umpteenth time), and there are some comparison pics below.
In short, I'm really torn. Do I stick with the 300MC and make my peace with its awkward bracelet? Do I hope that the new one fits and that it'll make it wear smaller? Or do I just cast my lot with the vintage redesign and go wholeheartedly with the Trilogy?
Advice appreciated, particularly from those who have worn or owned both....
