Ya thanks and I’m in the stock market and am a buy and hold type of guy. It is easy to get ahead of yourself, at least in my case. I will say along with thinking of using the watch towards a speedy I do like it and on the off chance I could get it for a grand I would be happy. Probably service it and hold it but I made the decision I’m leaving it at that. I’ve never dealt with an estate sale prior so it propbaly isn’t a wise idea. I appreciate the advice and have had to heed it numerous times in life after learning the hard way
As far as the watch itself, it seems legit although I haven’t seen those exact indices before, but the lettering, placement and lume plots gel with my 78 OPD. Make sure bracelet is long enough for you (should have 13 links full lenth, 12 work if you are a 7-7.5” wrist).
I love the 34mm oysters (and trust me-they are not mid-sized, they wear much larger than you would think). I think these “lower end” Rolex’s are the embodiment of the original Oyster design and ooze restrainted class. I have 2 now (an OPD and Airking) and they are staples in my weekly rotation.
If you can get it under $1.5k, throw in a $300 service, you are still under the bar for street value...but you won’t make much on it if you choose to flip it.

Some eye candy to make you think about getting it for yourself

Compare the "o" in Rolex with other samples you see in this thread, and then consider that with a refinished dial you'll also need to price in tracking down a period-correct original for it to ever return much value. I would continue looking and continue saving!

I’m not seeing it- I looked back and forth but they look the same to my eye. The dial furniture is what has me cautious on it-not like others I have seen of this time period but there were the “fat boy” indices that people collect so there were variations.

Note the egg shaped O and the long D and E look afoul.

Also note that in the other example with a similar "—DATE—" mark that I linked to before... the font and the length of the "-" are also different.

Anyhoo, stay frosty and do your homework! I'm not an expert now but it took me all-in-all less than 30 minutes to get a lot more versed and familiar with good examples of mid-70's DATE dials. Spend some time studying known redials (search forums) and learn to ID some of the tells.

Oh no doubt when I first saw it I spent several hours researching what I couId and tbh I am hoping to be outbid at this point and wish luck to anyone in my area who wishes to bid. If you like it go for it. I’m the top bidder now but with over a day left someone will sweep in and hit it up in the last minutes. Many of you know more than me of course but I really don’t see any red flags or at least bright ones. Now that is a total unprofessional guess but I did bring it to my watch guy and he said it looks right. Regardless I would not be unhappy getting it at a decent price and am not thinking a turn and burn as a matter of a fact once I get it looking nice I’ll probably fall for it any way. Oddly I have 2,000 dollars in Cuban cigars I’m selling to add to a watch fund and I’ve just got three calls about that. Life is a funny old dog. I like the fact I could make a move and get the speedy or newer seamaster I like but I’m just seeing if I can find creative ways to do it and get to enjoy a few different watches in my journey

Damn very nice collection you have. And FYI if I do sell things I’m happy with 100- 200 a pop even fifty bucks is OK. I’m fine doing the tortoise thing watches aren’t going any where. It’s just part of the hobby for me.

My quasi-unsolicited advice - don’t do it. You generally won’t make money on Sub-36mm Rolex. There just isn’t the same demand. If you just save the money you would invest you’d already be half-way to a Speedmaster anyway.

Plus even if you stood to make $100 flipping it you then run the risk of it getting lost in the mail or a scammer saying you ripped them off. Selling watches is the least enjoyable part of the hobby for me. I much prefer buying 😀

Well I woke up today and was happy as someone outbid. I do think if I could get it for 1,200 or under it would be nice. Not even just for the thought of selling it but making it nice for myself. The size I actually like. But nope I see the bidding at 995 and it’s coming down to the wire. I mentioned I have a dynamic on the way and am checking out the constellation today or tomorrow so I’m good. I have my Rolex Cellini to sell it’s just Cellini are not a great Rolex to sell. It’s a solid gold case, I got it years ago when I got married. So I’m doing OK. I’m just going to focus on selling my Cellini which I’m not in a big rush to do and take it from there. I do like this Rolex though. Im wearing my 43mm Vostok which I wear ok my Cellini is 34 or 36 and I wear that fine my sweet spot seems to be about 38. That will be the seamaster or speedy size I will be seeking

A Speedy Reduced fits right into your size range and can be had for little more than you were gonna pay for this Rolex. Solid mid 90’s-early 00 SMP’s can be had under $3k, which with the money you just saved on not buying this and the sale of the Cellini, and you’re there. Just hang in there and you will be rewarded for your patience.

I don't think that is a particularly good watch for a fast flip. There are too many of those around. It seems complicated the multiple buy sell flip strategy as a means to gain credit because it would seem you're waisting a lot of money on commissions, shipping and restoration. But hey, if you're on a gain have fun with it.

To be honest I started wanting it for myself. Honestly I could buy the speedy or seamaster today cashing out some bitcoin or a few stock even after are crash today but that is not the route I want to go. By the way please don’t take that as bragging I just got lucky with bitcoin and as far as stokes go I’m still on my ten year course. The Cellini is a bit harder to move as it’s unisex but my dynamic is on the way and I may have the constellation tomorrow. So yes I am passing on this Rolex i looked and it’s now at 1,255 which means a couple guys are battling it out. I honestly won’t be surprise to see it go at 1,500. I could get s prebond seamaster for that.

I caught some poop here but you gotta admit chasing a watch is pretty fun. Seriously though I appreciate the advice. I love the fact I can but up an omega I’m thinking of buying for myself. And ask questions. By the way the bidding ended at 1,225 for the watch I backed out at 800.

You were wise not to pursue it. You can get a clean, serviced and verified original OPD for $2-2.5k which is a better watch if you like the 34mm rolex’s (Basically a baby Datejust). I love the 34mm Rolex’s and don’t look at them as a “poor man’s Rolex”, quite the opposite really as I feel they embody the true essence of the brands roots.
