Good day my name is JP.

I am from South Africa, found this brilliant forum when searching for Omega watch restoration.

My father gave me his Omega Seamaster and I want to have it restored to use it everyday, it still runs just the clip on the band is broken.

I hope the knowledgeable members on the forum can help me with more information on the model and year.

    Hey JP,

    Welcome along, and nice watch!

Looks like the clasp has 1159 on it?

Replacements are available, not sure if there's a supplier in SA who would be better value for you, but Otto Frei show them as in stock: http://www.ofrei.com/page666.html

    Welcome.

It's an Omega Seamaster 200, reference 166.091. Made in early 1970s.

I own one myself, as do a few other members on this message board.

    Hi JP,

Welcome to the forum from another SA member.

The indices have a great patina and it may be more rewarding to leave it as is. The picture is not great but it looks like the crystal may have some crazing. Perhaps the crystal can be polished or replaced and that could make all the difference. It a cool watch in decent condition. It probably needs a service:thumbsup:

I think you should replace crystal. It appears dial might be in good condition, as @VanDamme mentioned.

If it was mine, I would get a service and crystal replaced, nothing more.

Mine is at watchmaker now. Mine has a service dial.

Here is a close up of the dial, hope it is a bit more clear, there is wear looks like the hour hand makes contact with the face.

Where does one send it for a service and to have the crystal replaced?

    A watchmaker???

If the hands are touching the dial, I would avoid moving the watch at all as it will wind and the hands will move and may damage the dial.
Where are you from in SA?

I am in Johannesburg. I would not want to take it to any watchmaker who might do more harm than good, for a service does it need to go to Omega / Agents?

It doesn't need to go to Omega. There are watchmakers that can do the work and it's simply your responsibility to find one of sufficient reputation and skill. A watchmaker and not a jeweller...

I may be able to refer you to someone. I know a guy in Joburg who uses a good guy. I can find out for you if you like.

I sourced the dial from a member on this message board. I searched long and hard for an original dial, but after 6+ months of looking I decided to use the service dial. I periodically look for an original, but it has been 18+ months. I even started a thread specific for this watch.

Here is the thread I started back then.

Thanks for the update after all these years!
Did you get the original dial and bezel back from Omega? If so keep them safe with the watch.
