I inherited this watch from my grandfather and I know nothing about it. I had the back popped off and the 2 numbers inside it are:

    47036913
    1020

Excuse the band weirdness. I had a local leather guy try to make a band for me but it didn't pan out. I could actually use some help finding a band, too, if anyone is so inclined. I'm thinking of staying with dark brown leather and a brass/gold clasp. I'm looking for something that doesn't taper; the same width the whole way through. The post width on this watch is 18mm.

    Thanks all!

I think you nailed it, I too believe it to be a watch.

The case and some styling features appear similar to this watch found on Youtube which is said to be from 1972.

Here's another similar watch from an ad also claiming it to be from 1972. http://www.darlor-watch.com/images/omega5901_big.jpg

There are likely a number of different dials shared by several Omega models from the late 1960s to the early 1970s.

Here's a dark brown strap in an Ebay auction. The buckle may be ordred in gold color. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DARLENA-18m...986?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item20f8dfa5b2Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

Lots more dark brown straps are available on Ebay.

It is an Omega Automatic Watch.
The #1020 is the movement number and 47036913 is the serial number. It dates back to the mid 1980s.
It probably has a gold plated case and is worth around $200-$300 if it runs and you get a new band for it.
