It certainly has changed over the years. Rummaging through some old family photographs and came across these pics. Taken late seventies at the annual security office Christmas party, bearing in mind that this small office was responsible for all security and plant safety of I.C.I. Grangemouth,Scotland. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_Chemical_Industries Unfortunately none of these lads are with us now so perfectly safe to post. All on duty and plenty tipple going around
The Seventies and Eighties were certainly different times, eh? You could tell your kids to go outside and not come back 'til dinner, and that was perfectly fine!
And most of these guys drove home. All my working life of almost fifty years spent in the construction industry and when I look back it certainly had to change.
It still is fine, and it's much safer than it was back then in most places. If we didn't have so many helicopter parents kids would be much more well adjusted... I had to be home before the streetlights came on when I was a kid, and in the summer that is quite late...
All great guys, a few had worked the mines another deep sea fishing a couple in construction before I.C.I. Sadly missed.
