and besides tapas, sangria, paella, jamon serrano, Rioja wine, Cardenal Mendoza, and calamari sandwiches... any recommendations of places to check out vintage watches? Segovia is on the itinerary too.
A regular poster on the OMB lives in Madrid. His MB name is TRITIUM. He was very helpful to me several years ago, when he provided a case for an Omega I wanted to return to service. He probably would be able to advise you of many things of interest, perhaps including horological relevant things to see. I hope Tritium doesn’t mind, but maybe drop him a PM. https://omegaforums.net/members/tritium.3050/
There's a decent Swiss watch dealership right in the centre on the corner of Calle Fuencarral and Gran Via, I think this is it: http://www.unionsuiza.com/en/homepage For vintage pieces Aicher Watches (http://www.aicherwatches.com/index.php) are often to be seen on Chrono24 and are located in Madrid (Calle Zurbano) but I think they're online only, maybe worth a call though. And if you're there on Sunday don't miss the Rastro flea market in La Latina, even if you don't find any watches you'll thank me all the same.
In a PM from Tritium to me, he has received my email re: your tip to Madrid. He is awaiting a PM from alam.
Sorry Alam, I was watching España vs Argentina at the Wanda stadium and didn’t see your call. PM sent
As I look out over my front lawn which is under 3 feet of snow, I am inclined to think that Spain is the place to be, given the images shown in this thread.
wrapping up the day in Segovia, the Roman aqueduct was impressive, one stop to enjoy local cheeses and wine before heading out..
