For a while, I've been a bit intrigued by the Polaris models. Not just any old Polaris models though, I'm more interested in the rarer automatic models as opposed to the quartz ones. I'm also not really taken with the smaller versions and really would prefer something 38mm or above. In an idle moment, I was digging around on the internet and came across this.

I've fired off a few questions, the main one being a request to have pictures of the caseback and movement. What intrigued me is the seller says it's a 42 mm version, which may well be accurate, as I've not seen a polaris case with these proportions before. However, I do believe that there are sparsely documented limited editions that were aimed at Germany.

Not quite sure where I'll go with this, but it may lead me to the chronograph darkside. Thoughts/opinions welcome :) Polaris.jpg

I just recently realized there was an automatic version Polaris and that has fired me up. Also looking for one now but info is scarce. Maybe we should form a support group...;)

Would be interesting to know production numbers and versions (what variations - gold/titanium).

    I should have dug some more before op. I think it's a reference 378.0885 with a cal.1154 :D

Sadly, the seller is asking near speedy money for it :cautious:

What money would a Speedmaster in 18-karat and steel bring? Rarity and the gold content might just make this one good for the money. Looks good to me. If you like it, why not buy it?

Indeed it is, there's also a palladium and titanium version which looks really cool and interesting, just with white metal where the gold is on the regular titans, and diamond encrusted versions as well.

Watch in question is case ref. 055TB3780885, and is listed as 41.7 mm in diameter - Titanium and yellow gold.

There is also a DB version listed, so steel and yellow gold, and there is a TR version that is titanium and pink gold.

The watch you show that has no gold in the bracelet is is a ref. 58944000. If it had gold in the center portions of the links it would be a ref. 58904000.

There are 2 dial variations - one with applied marker and black accents for the tachy scale and around the sub-dials like yours, and also a painted version with no applied marker that is tones of grey.

1154/1164 is of course a reliable movement and an ETA 7750 base. Parts still available for this watch including case, dials, hands, bracelet, so service should not be a problem.

    Cheers, Al

If someone show this to me without checking I would have thought it's a fake. Never seen it before.
