    THIS is a watch....

    THIS is a head...

    IMG_4674.JPG

Pray tell.... which part of the watch pictured above & again below is the "head" and why do so many otherwise informed sellers want to rid themselves of only that part, and not the whole watch?

And another thing, why would I want to buy only the watch's "head", whatever the ::censored:: that is, and not the whole watch?

    IMG_4675.JPG

And don't give me that tired pablum that "head only" means you don't get a bracelet or strap. Bracelet/strap sellers, on the other hand, seem to get it. Their ads (if a watch is pictured) say "watch not included", not "watch head" not included.

"Head Only" has no place in a FS ad, unless perhaps you're a hooker, and...

You're looking at this backwards. Likely seller already sold the bracelet.

Watch head makes perfect sense to me - your first picture does not show a watch. It's a similar nomenclature as rim, tyre and wheel.

Sorry, but it's a watch. Granted, it has no bracelet or strap, but it's still a frickin' watch. Not a "watch head".

Next you'll be telling me the parts on your "watch head" are all "original", as if you have a ::censored:: clue what parts were on it when it left the factory 50 years ago.

As for the rest of you....

@darlingboy I gotta say this you maybe right, but content is everything. Voting best thread of the weekend. Even got a reaction from the misses. "Ah dogs are cute" and "I'm hungry". This is a highly irregular watch related feedback. Calling it a win.

Actually, your first photo is of a watch head, not a watch. The term is correct for a wrist watch without bracelet or strap. Since you chose a Speedmaster for the example, I've looked up a 35705000 on the Omega Extranet to illustrate, and the watch is broken down into several sub-assemblies and headings. The first one is:

MOVEMENTS - this is where they list the various movements that may have been used in this model. In this case it's only the 1861.

    The next section is....

WATCH HEAD Ref. 4ST1450022108 - this is the unit you show above, and since there have been different generations, more than one are listed., The reference number shown above is for the Tritium dial and hands version. Below that there is a seconds watch head shown...

WATCH HEAD Ref. 4ST1450022158 - you will note the slightly different number, resulting from the switch from tritium to luminova.

The next section is...the awkwardly worked...

PIECES OF ATTACHEMENT - this is where they show the spring bars used.

    Next they list the...

SALES ACCESSORIES - showing the manual and box.

    Last, there is the...

BRACELETS - this is where they list the various bracelets used on this watch.

So, a watch is only a watch if it has some "pieces of attachments" that in turn hold a bracelet or strap on it. Otherwise, it's just a watch head.

Thank you for your attention - there will be a test...

    Cheers, Al

Thank you for the enlightenment Al.

However, I like Miss Fox's interpretation MUCH better.

Based on this break down, is it correct to say a watch head includes these externally visible components: case, dial, hands, crystal, bezel, crown and pushers?

In any case, according to Omega, a watch head does not include the movement, so a sale listing for a watch head only, strictly to say, does not include the movement. :)

The movement is included in the watch head, but is broken out because some watches uses several different movement variations....
