Do any of you have multiples of the same watch? I'm tempted to do this with a couple of the watches that I wear more frequently but am finding it hard to rationalize. Here's my logic: one of my daily wearers in a Cosmic Moonphase. If by chance anything happens to it, it is not a watch that can be easily replaced. Hence I've been passively on the look-out for one, not to wear but to essentially store in case anything happens to the one I wear. Does this sound reasonable? Does anyone else have this train of thought in regards to your more difficult to replace watches?
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I've bought a second identical reference in the past with the idea that it would replace the first one but then when I had both in my hand I couldn't decide which one I liked best so.... [emoji85]ah well. No harm in it.
Check out some of @MSNWatch's threads, there are people with way more than two of the same @Bill Sohne has 40 identical clocks too, so it can become an obsession!
Like spacefruits speedmaster collection? Unfortunately, I simply cannot afford it, and would rather have different options to put on in the morning. Then again, I have also had the thought, I'm done. This piece is so awesome and perfect to me that I need not buy any more. And I didn't buy any more, for maybe a whole two months!
I have to confess that I see nothing wrong with owning more than one of the same watch, although in all honesty all the watches have now been flipped.
When talking about vintage pieces, they all age differently and each has its own special character, so in that sense, they may be the same model, but appear totally different
No, they may appear the same but have different movement numbers. A mom had 7 sons named Frank One day, her friend was visiting and asked why all her sons had the same name. Mom replied that it made her life easier. In the morning, Frank! Get your ass out of bed. All my boys wake up. In the evening, Frank! Dinner is ready and all my sons come to eat. Her friend asked how she would call only one of her sons. Mom: oh that's easy. I call him by his last name.
I have the same quirky behaviour, with a number of watches that I own two of. There is no justifiable logic, or at least not very much. For me it is more to do with collectors' OCD - although I try to rationalise it to myself by saying one is 'for best' and the other is to wear and enjoy fearlessly. Sounds reasonable enough! Anyway - here are some of the pairs:
In used to have a Smiths W10 and a PRS 29a, and more recently two CWC G10's(one slim, one fatboy). My wife thought I was crazy enough then.
Would love to have a backup of a couple watches but afraid I have to sell everything else. I just take my glasses off and I always see doubles. 1st post...thanks guys
I focus on speedmasters like a lot of folks here and have 7 of them. There are other watches that I like and would collect, but if you are into vintage ones there is a lot to know so that you don't get burnt. I am confident in my knowledge of vintage speedmasters to buy them with the exception of the 2915's. They are super expensive and it would be easy to make an expensive mistake.
I have several duos too because i have 2 sons and they are to inherit my collection in due time. Some of my twins: n
I have two Speedmaster 145022. A '71 for daily use and an untouched, authentic and factory original 69'er for the bank box[emoji4]
