    Hello everybody,

This is my first post here. I am pretty active on WUS, but it seems that this is the place to be if you are interested in learning about vintage watches. I am still a vintage newbie and can really use your help.

Anyhow I won this vintage Longines Conquest off ebay but am having 2nd thoughts. I just noticed that it doesn't have a minute track on the dial. Were these models every produced without the minute track on the dial. There is another one on ebay without the minute track but most of the pics I googled seems to have it.

My winning bid was a bit over 500$. Was this a good price for the watch? I wished I did more research before pulling the trigger but this was seemed to be such a pristine example of the watch for and couldn't resist.

Looks completely correct to me. Not a bad price at all at $500. Have a shot of the fish caseback?

    Yea here it is.

So the fact that there is no minute track on the dial is ok?

The winding stem looks as if it is crooked / bent ?……therefore the crown is not seated correctly to the case ?

Yea I thought so too... but when I messaged the seller about it, he says it wasn't. It definitely does look bent to me.

Is the price at $500 is a good price?

When searching the seller's recent history, he sold the same exact watch in similar condition for $400, which makes me feel like I am overpaying. Seller literally just copied and pasted the same post description with different pics.

Is the stem bent in the original eBay photos? If not you might consider returning the item for a refund if you’re not 100% satisfied

Whoa, wait a sec - that's a modern caseback, not correct for that vintage caliber 29x watch.

Well... I mean if I had 2 of the same exact watch, I would probably copy and paste the ad description to save some time too.
The pictures were different, so it doesn't bother me. The fact that the 1st one (which didn't look like it had the bent stem) sold for a lot less does bother me though

Yes this is the original pictures. The seller assured me that it is not bent, but the pic clearly looks bent to me.

Thanks for so much chiming in. All that I know about vintage Longines are from your past posts, which I'm sure has helped many others besides myself.

I am leaning towards cancelling the purchase because I really did overextend myself by going over $500.
Is a different caseback really a reason not to pull a trigger on a vintage piece even though everything else is in order?

It's a damn good reason! The original gold with green enamel fish medallion is part of the value and charm of vintage Conquests.

Yea. I am leaning towards just returning the watch. Thanks for your help!

Btw, I am sure that you know what you are talking about, but 3 other examples of this watch had the same caseback.
So, all 4 examples of this model have lost the original caseback?

WTF is going on with the glut of these casebacks? I've never seen so many before!

The first two examples are the same watch (i.e. The OPs).

So in fact, we see only 3 total examples.

Interesting... So that means that first buyer who bought it for much cheaper returned the watch for whatever reason...

I think the reasons are obvious.

Is it really that obvious? I still haven't ruled out keeping the watch. I still think she is a beauty.
