Not for walking away... in each instance it was the right decision. I have kicked myself a few times for hesitating, and then missing the opportunity. Its a fine line between due diligence, and dithering.

Yup. You need to know what you know and more importantly, know what you don't know, so you know when to pounce.

Know what I mean?

I have a photographic memory of sorts...when I was a kid back on the 1980s and my dad would drag me around to flea markets, pawn shops and the like, I remember two deals that he didn't trust me on...given I was 7 or 8 at the time.

The first was at a country auction in GA where they had an original Gibson Les Paul cherry burst guitar in the original case...I told dad to buy it, and he only bid $75...it went for $200.

The other was at a flea market in Webster, FL...a dealer has Fox Sterlingworth 16ga in perfect condition for $400...he wouldn't pull the trigger. I still think about that gun.

Then there was the time when I was 13 and we were in Key West and I found a miniature chest in an antique shop for $535...told dad to buy and he said no. When we got back home he got out his reference books and realized I was right...i called the dealer and bought it.

Sooo, I have few stories that still bugging me.
1) Tudor Sub from 80s with box and papers was listed for $2000 on the CL...Sent an email asking, if watch was still for sale. Got the positive reply. What did I do? Asked, if could negotiate a bit - no replies... I'm still thinking was it for real or it was a scam. This was one of the first attempts to get into vintage watches.
2) Two Doxa divers were listed on CL for $1100, no pictures...I waited a day, then pulled the trigger-watches were gone.
3)Most recent one. I have purchased Longines from the guy. Few days later he sent me an email, saying that, he has IWC cal.89 18k for sale also, for $700... I didn't even try to run it by my wife, buying more than one watch per week would never work. Knowing, that I would free up some founds(the ones I don't have to let her know about) in two weeks, I've told the guy, that I would probably buy it in two week or so.... One week later - watch was gone....
P.S. I know, I didn't miss the deal of the century, but I don't have unlimited budget and it's harder and harder letting my better half know how, much I spend on some watches...
P.P.S. Thanks for sharing your stories gentlemen, now I know I'm not alone)
