Sorry for the mystery. It was discussed privately, The consensus was that it is a nice and solid watch, perhaps a little over priced. I know of no one who is going for it at this time.

Oooh. Interesting. Is there a sort of Dead Poets' Society sub-website that is hidden from the watch riffraff? ;)

People on this and other websites have private and administrative conversations on many subjects all the time. This is on many levels, friends, enthusiasts, specialists, moderators, etc. This, I'm sure, is understood by most.

I think it's a good buy at that price - it's a nice honest example of an uncommon watch - even more uncommon since the condition is quite good. If the buyer is a forum member, I hope to see pictures of the acquisition soon!

It was bought for 1295 earlier last week and flipped again on market. It pays to watch the evil bay at times.

Yes if you watch the bay enough times you will get these great bargains every now and again.

I was tempted, but haven't done enough dilegence on these early ones yet.
Still getting super confused with all the opinions on "step" or "dome"
for the -1 and -2 Then saw a -1 with a stepped dial sell for what
must have been close to ask of $16k on another forum and the dial
was "stepped" Mk.2 Scratching my head. Not lots of info out there on
    these

I think you are referring to the thread I started about the 2998 with the Lollipop hand with a BIN of $350.00 and it sold in like 18 seconds. I haven't seen that one pop up on the bay yet. I think the thread title was "Somebody stole this speedmaster."

This should be helpful to you if you have not already gone through it. And of course the Chuck Maddox and Omega Addict pages among others.

Yes I have, thank you for the link.
If you have the time or interest google the 2998-1 and read all the forum
posts on other forums. here is Huge disagreement on what constitutes
and original dial on these very special Speedmasters.
