Afternoon everyone, I was wondering if anyone else had a hard time winding there speedmasters that had short crowns? It seems the more modern speedmasters and wrong replacement crowns on older speedmasters are really hard to wind as you can't get any traction because there's literally nothing to grab because of the crown guards doing too good of a job. Or maybe I'm just a wuss.

Keep in mind that when a crown is new, the seal inside the crown will be tighter on the case tube. Using a proper grease can help, but it often just takes some time and use for the seal to loosen up a bit.

    Cheers, Al

That is what I was figuring, as the space around the crown is essentially the same on both. Thanks for the info.

It seems the older speedmaster crowns stick out a little more so you have a little more to grab onto, but I'm sure as archer said they are just a it the tighter also.
