Bringing out the old to bring in the new. The iPhone 7+ did a good job of capturing the old watch and the old guitar I am playing around with today. Happy New Year JohnCote
Prepping for an early New Year's fiddle jam to last for, oh, I don't know, 6 or 7 hours. Starting about 3:00 pm today, time out for a pot luck, then play until 10ish. Three fiddles, 5-string banjo, three guitars (including a friend's 1958 Gibson Les Paul), mandolin, and possibly an electric bass fiddle. This is my favourite 1950s Omega (yup, still wearing it), and my favourite fiddle. It's a 1928 J Collingwood (Philadelphia) that is my fiddle of choice. However, I'll take a second fiddle which has a pickup on it, just in case we want to blow the doors off! Happy New Year!
OK, The guitar is a Guild X-350 Sheraton from the early '60s. It is a wonderful sounding guitar but has an odd way of switching pick-up configurations which is the row of buttons, like on a blender, that you see along the bottom under the volume and tone knobs. It sounds great unplugged and great plugged in with both a rockabilly and a jazz sound possible. The pickups are Guild's take on P-90s It actually sounds much better to me plugged in than my Gibson L-350 from about the same era with 2 Gibson P-90s. I will admit that I am much more of a guitar collector than a player. JohnCote The Guild: The Gibson:
