About a month ago, we introduced to you the Omega Speedmaster Alinghi. I read a lot of comments on the fact that a Seamaster wasn’t used for this partnership, and I get that. However, Omega sent us a Speedmaster Alinghi for a hands-on review, and here are my thoughts about the watch. And the partnership. […]

Thanks for the review Robert,

I was hoping for more details on the laser etched carbon fiber/honeycomb pattern. A was wondering how the engravings would stack up in your opinion to the Apollo 8 and or the HB Sia's dial.

Stack up? In regards to what?

It's extremely intricate, and it looks a lot more deliberate than the Apollo 8's moon surface. The carbon fiber weave is also grained/textured in a matte checker pattern (almost like a basket weave), making it a lot more visually interesting at close magnification than the HB-SIA, which is essentially just a glossy sheet of carbon fiber.

I get the sailing tie-in isn't for everyone, but on a detail level, it's definitely the coolest Speedy I've ever handled - and I loved the Apollo 8.

Thank you for posting your review, it was a good read. The watch instantly reminded me of the Audemars Piguet Alinghi special edition watch which was released a few years back. To tell you the truth, I like the Omega rendition better.

Those who got the Alinghi, how does the rubber strap feels on wrist?

The strap is very comfortable and soft. No break-in is required. I did notice - but I am always supercritical to straps - that the top surface feels a bit too smooth.

That strap would look great on the DSOTM that has the red accents.

This was the Alinghi that I always liked:

Is it the same strap as the Apollo (with red accents)?

I agree, this version is far more appealing to the eye then the one I selected. Thanks for finding it. Now, it's a toss up, but, the AP is more $$$$.

Nope - it's 100% rubber, while the Apollo is padded textile with a leather backing.

I agree! Does anyone know if it would fit?

Exactly, what is the point of this other than a fashion statement? I find even the FOIS difficult to read and for me the attraction of the white hand Speedmaster is it’s legibility.
