Hand me Down Omega Watch

Hello everyone 😀

Ive currently been cleaning out my room and came across the watch I was received from my grandad when he passed, its been sitting in a cupboard for probably 10 years or something! I have no paper work or box for this item

I'm not to sure on what it is, as the watch face only reads omega automatic and then swiss made at the bottom, however I spent a good few hours on here last night and think I have narrowed it down to possible be a geneve watch.

I'm yet to get it to the watchmakers to have them take the back off for me, the watch once I wind it in my hand keeps great time and the seconds hand is ultra smooth.

I'am unsure if any work has ever been done on this, the watch dial looks pretty worn and due to its age has a few bumps but nothing horrible.

looking for information on what the watch could be + best course of action weather its worth selling or not, ive no real interested in wearing the watch myself so it would only end up back in a box somewhere, however if the value is poor and or would need lots of work putting into it id probably just hang onto it.

the watch is pretty dirty and im sorry about the poor picture quality, however this is the best camera I have available at the moment, if / when I take it to the watch makers I shall provide some more photos

thanks for any words and information and all of your incredible knowledge

Ben

Not an expert, but I doubt it would make you rich. That being said, I’d keep it - if not you, maybe your kids would like to wear it someday (assuming the movement is in acceptable condition). It’s a neat heirloom after all. I wish my grandparents kept more stuff like this for their grandchildren, so not to let down mine in the (far) future I’ll keep some for them. 😉

If you have no desire to wear it, then sell it. If you sell it, don’t do anything to it- don’t polish it, don’t service it, done even clean it. Any collector who buys it will want to have their own watchmaker service it. eBay is the place to list this as you’ll get the largest audience. Start the listing at $1 no reserve and you will get the best response and will get the market rate- which is what anyone is willing to pay. An honest dirty watch is always worth more than one gussied up or sale.
