    Hamilton Rutledge Platinum Case
Killer example . This late 1930s Hamilton Rutledge has a beautiful brushed finish Platinum case. The slightly curved case measures 36mm from lug tip to lug tip and 22mm across without the crown. It shows some very minor signs of use but is in overall very good condition. The case is Hamilton signed and marked Platinum. The silver dial features applied 18k White Gold Arabic numerals with matching hands. The dial looks to have its original finish. Many of these have badly redone dials, once again this dial appears original to me. It shows just the slightest hint of aging, but is in wonderful condition for its 70+ years of life. The watch is powered by a signed cal. 982 manual wind movement with 19 jewels and is keeping good time. The watch was serviced a year ago. The strap in the photo will not be included.

2500$ plus shipping...... I am in NYC. I can furnish references on request.

    Hi Vron

    Welcome to the forums...

The Cambridge case has pointed lugs as opposed to the Rutledge rounded scrolled end lugs ( assuming your talking about a Platinum Cambridge . Both are great watches.. The previous sales post was Rutledge. I am not sure what you mean about the hands..

So if you have the same case as my watch above... you have a Rutledge...

In Rene Rondeau Book on Hamilton in the additional notes section....

His notes on the Rutledge is as follows...

" This is one of the few platinum watches offered by Hamilton, sold for 175$ at the time when the Great Depression was still in effect ...."

That is part of the reason I think that the Rutledge is a special watch .... at a time in American history during the Great Depression Hamilton released this and when you find a surviving example I think each one is special...

Vron, If you want please pm me photos of your watch ... and or conversely create a post on the "Other Watch brands forum "

    https://omegaforums.net/forums/other-watch-brands-forum/

As this is actually a sales post and I want tot keep this thread neat....

I also prefer the aesthetics of the dagger hands over the cathedral hands...

    Hi @Vron

Thanks, also @Deafboy mentioned to me that the later Rutledge used the same hands at the Cambridge...

    We both learned something new.....!

bump ..... Telling you guys this is a killer watch and in Platinium... not made in large numbers... and was released right after the great depression hit... original retail was 175$ in 1930... a 18k gold model was priced maxed out at 125$.....

    2500 or Best offer...

    I have one, Ed!

GLWTS, Bill. I agree with @Deafboy about the hands. The older cathedral-style hands were probably used until WWII (mine has these), at which time production ceased until 1945-46. Yours has a 1942 inscription, and is a cal. 982, so it's an earlier production example; it is possible that the original hands may have been replaced at some point. The Cambridge was only found with the cal. 982M and had a thinner bezel (it was basically a platinum Brock).

Here is listing from the 1949 Hamilton Catalog for the Rutledge:

I believe that the dagger hands were always an option on these and, as Adam stated, could have been replaced at any time.

You can’t always have 100% certainty in life.
