You just gave me an idea! I have a Hamilton Railroader that is dead in the water. I might consider doing a re-fit to accommodate a quartz movement. Good idea! Thanks!

    You're quite welcome Canuck.

Better than trying to get the 505 movement running. That's usually emotionally futile.

According to the link I posted in this listing, Hamilton had basically run out of parts by the 1980s and used these movements as drop in replacements. I've read about these conversions but this was the first one I actually encountered.

The Hamilton 505 Electric was supposedly designed as a more reliable, easier to service replacement for the 500 model. The complicated and sensitive switch mechanism of the 500 was removed, and the roller that interfaced with the escape wheel had a roller jewel replaced with a gold contact. The escape wheel was hard wired into the electrical circuit, so when the gold pad on the roller contacted the escape wheel tooth, the circuit was completed, and the impulse given to the balance wheel. The gold pad didn’t usually last very long. I think the word oxymoron was invented the fist time that “Hamilton Electric” and “reliable” were used in the same sentence.:whistling:
