A good friend of mine recently retired from the military and its his birthday. He has a young family with a newborn so little discretionary money at this time. So I wanted to get him something special that matches his pragmatic no nonsense style, and got him the Hamilton Khaki. I think it looks great on the wrist!

Looks great! I love my 38mm. The second best watch for the money in my opinion (it's hard to beat the SKX).

 

The Urban Gentry has a review of that model I believe.

 

It was the older version with date window he reviewed. These new ones only came out last month I believe.

 

I saw one in person about a month ago when I was out with the fam. The guy and I chatted for a few minutes - it's a great looking watch. My only real complaint is that it is super hard to justify spending almost twice as much on it as buying the older and almost identical one. Yes, the vintage lume and no date window on this, as well as the overall dial layout looks better. But one is $250 and the other $475...

SKX is great value for anyone who wants a chunky diver, for those who don't, the Khaki is a great option.

I have a colleague in China who has received nice watches from friends (one is an IWC Chrono). When I joked how it must be nice to have such nice friends, he pointed out that of course such gifts are reciprocated and so it isn’t a one-directional benefit.
