+1 for vintage Tissot
Ditto.

You should be able to get a Lemania powered Tissot within your budget.

Instead of going through a few brands what is you max budget and type of watch and we can throw some brands you might not of thought of yet.

Vintage or new?

You never know who might have something that you would like..

Never even thought of this brand until i was wearing it. And great deal from Alpha whilst i was buying something else

Thanks. So I would prefer vintage, but would consider something new that had "vintage" qualities. My dream watch is a chronograph with Arabic numerals and a leather band. My budget is about 900-1200 USD.

I'm a fan of B&R because it's just so different. When I went into an AD, the military ceramic sung to me and I bought it on the spot...haven't regretted it at all.

Buy what you like!

I have to second the CWs for bang for the buck on a lower-end automatic. The C9 Harrison is reasonable for an auto chrono with display back, especially if you like blue dials and 2-registers. The strap is a bit garish, but it can be swapped out easily.

You could probably find a nice second-hand one cheaper on the Bay
