I bought the Hairspring app not expecting much, but thought it was worth a gamble for $4.99. It works by putting your watch on top of the iPhone microphone from your headphones. Trying it on a couple of vintage watches I found it roughly in accord with my losses over 24 hours. Yes, the Gruen needs to be serviced ;). YMMV of course! 3A568FCF-8500-4780-988A-75D0296CDB4D.png

Does it only the show the losses or also the amplitude and any potential beat error?

Being curious to try it out...

Only losses, but there others such as Watch Tuner that do it all, but $13 versus $5.

Has anyone noticed the hairspring app disappearing from the App Store? I recently got a new iPhone and I can no longer download it. I was just wondering if anyone experienced something similar

Anyone care to share some experiences? There are several apps around using the same method.

I know this is an old thread but the Hairspring app no longer appears. Is there another good one that uses the microphone to listen to the timing?

After Hairspring stopped working, I started using Watch Tuner lite, which was around $4. Works pretty well, that is, results seem to jibe with reality. My main issue it never seems to stop and give you an average. I just observe for a few minutes to get a ballpark, which is all I need.
