    Hi all,

Posting this here to share some photos and get some help potentially!

Got my hands on this mint GSOT yesterday!

Unfortunately later in the evening I dropped it from about a half meter height and landed right on the crown - which subsequently shattered!
Managed to put it back together with glue. But it's just not the same! Any recourse other than getting a new one from local AD?

Ouch! Not the way to start a long-term relationship.

You really have no recourse other than to buy a replacement from Omega - I doubt this kind of damage will be covered under warranty.

@Archer may be kind enough to check the price of the replacement crown.

Given the shock to the watch, you may want to have the operation/running checked as well - I certainly would.

I would take it to Omega Service Center to make sure no other damage, which sometimes is not visible until further inspection by an expert. I would also have the crown replaced. It would bother me to know it is held on by glue. And yeah...sh@t happens. Just have to live w it. Kudos to you for posting the pics.

Ceramic crown is 12.7 times the cost of a steel one...the cost of the repair will be more than just the crown, so really taking it to Omega is the only way to know for sure what you are in for in this instance. I agree that having it looked at for other damage is a good idea.

Ceramic is hard, but brittle. If you knock it in just the right direction, it breaks.

The shattering crown is an undocumented feature of the ceramic crowns. It absorbed most of the shock of being dropped, saving the movement. Unfortunately Omega will probably require a full service on the watch, which includes a new crown, thus negating the cost benefit of this feature.

Steel crown is $20 or so...kind of depends on what market you are in, exchange rates, etc.

Eternal thanks who believe that watches that are abused, shouldn't break! Helps keep watchmakers in business!

I've tentatively been quoted $185 for a new crown probably will be charged a bit more for labor etc. I'll get a final quote in a few days :'(

Suggesting this is abuse is a bit much. It was an accident...it happens.

Not talking about the guy that dropped his Omega. Talking about the guy who thinks that dropping a watch shouldn't damage it. Try to keep stuff in context, will you.

There is nothing in @Omeg@007 's post that suggests abuse either. It may suggest a lack of understanding on the design of the watch but jumping to abuse........oh ffs man. Try looking for the best in others. It leads to a very happy outlook often times.

    Hi

As a non Watchmaker... i think a drop where the impact was directly on the crown... Is a potential big issue as the crown it attached to the stem and that bit goes directly into the movement... as a direct path for force to travel...

Sorry to point this out.. I hope I am incorrect..

Good Hunting and best of luck with the repair..

PS , I dropped many watches over the years and a few needs to be brought in for repair and parts replacement... It happens to everyone... and the ones who say it never happens... well you mileage may very..

Yes this is from the AD here in Dubai. They did say that was just the price of the crown. And that final quote would pend a physical inspection
