I'd purchased this a while back and it was losing time the glass was cracked and the hands had a mould on them.

The glass fixing ring was threaded wrong and I had a fear it would never get sorted.

Luckily I had a really good guy on the job I asked him not to refinish the case but I really wanted to clean the hands up and I really didn't want to relume them unless absolutely necessary.
The movement was fully serviced with a NOS balance fitted.
Luckily he managed to repair the glass ring and fit a genuine NOS glass.
Back to the hands well he did it I got to keep the original lume.

She's scrubbed up well I think and keeping awesome time.

I'm so happy with the results.

Congrats on a beautiful acquisition. I'm guessing the wizard himself, John Senior did all the work? An extremely skilled watchman and a nice guy to boot. I call DIBS on this one. -Khurram

Your insight serves you well Khurram he's done a few of my military watches and I'm so impressed with his work. Sadly he's got so much on he's not taking any more repairs until the new year.

I never asked him how he did it he's amazing, you can tell by the colour of the lume he didn't replace it he's very good at colour matching but to match the hands exactly to the originals is bloody hard.

the agreement was to try and clean them or he had some original nos hands to replace them if it failed, to be honest I was expecting the later.

Hi Eric I finally found out how he did it, he soaked the hands in lacquer a few times and when it hardend it gave him the ability to remove the crud and mould. He did admit there was one tiny bit of lume that fell out but he was able to repair it. It's all about the 3 P's patience patience patience.

Lacquer... you mean something like nailpolish or a varnish of sorts? (seriously)

    Thanks Darlinboy :)

Just love seeing meticulous and sensitive restorations that your watchmaker so skillfully demonstrates.
