Just seen this on a certain auction site:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Retro-Ste...es_Watches_MensWatches_GL&hash=item45f9dec902Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

The dial is described as "100% mint, the original emerald green dial..." As a bit of sport & education, I'm curious to know whether Omega really sold green face dials in that period, as it looks unusual (in a good way). Any thoughts from the experts ?

Nope, unless the dial was exposed some kind fumes/gases that turned a black dial green, the move shows a lot discoloration for this age watch, possible poor sealing.

The English do like those colored dials though.:D

The slab of metal that is the dial might be original, but that finish isn't.

    ::puke::

.... and I like the color green.

"Connie"? Really? Can't we find a more manly nickname for it? How about "Cons" like pros and cons. Heh. Get it? Pros...like Speedmasters/good...and Cons...like Constellations...

It seems most males who are vintage Omega collectors are secure enough in their manhood to use the name "Connie".

....except the occasional Speedmaster collector, that is.

Hmmmm, between the above comment and the "manly Omega" thread I have my doubts about you Patrick. You aren't overcompensating for something, are you? :p

As this particular one is in London, we might have to call it a Slough special...

One of the good things about this forum is that is really is educational as to the amount of shit on eBay.

In 5-ish years I've seen crazy amounts of schlock that n00bs ask about. I'd conservatively estimate that 75% of sellers who claim their watches are "serviced" have no idea what that truly means, and at least half of the Omegas listed at any given time on eBay are not honestly described (redials that are called originals, frankens, fakes, etc).

There seems to be quite a lot of that around generally as far as I can tell. I'm sticking to Omega watches partly because it's easier to learn about the details of one brand at a time !

I can tell you there's one dealer in Brisbane that does "kerosene vapor services" in other words, opening the caseback, and suspending the movement over an open vessel of kerosene in order to lubricate the movement without having to take it apart. Apparently it does have some effect on a watch in the short term (long enough to sell it) but he considers it "cleaning and lubrication"

Does he give a warranty with that ?!?!

Maybe I should try it with whiskey. I could sniff the bottle and tell myself I'm drunk... Might be a lot cheaper than drinking the stuff :)

Means nothing. I'll bet that watch was put together in India and sent to a relative in the UK to be sold.

Slough has a huge Indian and Pakistani population... It's known as a bit of a ghetto here.

That's like having it rain on your car and saying it's been detailed.

Sadly there was a time when it was considered a good practice... that was like the 1930s though :\
