Apparently so. Here's some info from the (excellent) site that featured it when it was for sale on eBay: "This 1957 Land Rover Series 1 (chassis 124700077) is a 107″ wheelbase example sold new in Vancouver, Canada and then used as a tow truck in a mine–the former according to a remaining dealership plaque and the latter per the seller. Later driven from Canada to Mexico as part of an event planned for Land Rover’s 50th anniversary in 1998, the truck is said to retain its original paint and sounds to be in working condition. Chassis and bulkhead rust may be a concern, but the lovely, warm patina on top should be retained at all costs." and from a commenter: Wagoner 2,192 @RacerRick- "to the best of my knowledge it was a special order color. I have seen a few original trucks in AA Yellow, all of which were mid-Fifties model years and none of which were actual AA service vehicles. Just speculation but I think some Canadian companies (forestry, oil exploration etc.) ordered them that way for high visibility." Oh, and I think that they are daisies!
I love them but, If there's anything more difficult to find good service for than rare Omega calibers...It's classic land rovers.
No, just admiring from afar. I have owned two vintage cars, a BMW 2002tii and Alfa Romeo Milano, but am waiting for the impending economic crisis to unfold in earnest before possibly dabbling again (Lancia...).
Lancia just might be the Longines of the automotive world. They were once hopelessly beautiful, ingeniously engineered, and highly competitive. Now they are largely generic machines with only a semblance of their former glory. And the vintage ones are still under appreciated (for the most part). Also, they both begin with the letter "L". Here are some of my favorites; all of which are from my private collection of course. http://www.classicargarage.com/assets/images/0/aurelia-001-d11ace10.jpg http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/images/car/2921/27967/Lancia-D24-Sport-Pinin-Farina-Spyder.jpg http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/images/large/123-1.jpg https://stevemckelvie.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/lancia-aurelia-b24-spider-america-1955-1.jpg http://www.carsbase.com/photo/Lancia-Flaminia_Super_Sport_mp37_pic_80751.jpg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3e/Lancia_Fulvia_HF_Fanalone_1970_-_0.jpg http://www.conceptcarz.com/images/Lancia/71-Lancia-Fulvia-Sport_DV-10-GG_03.jpg https://i.wheelsage.org/pictures/l/lancia/stratos/lancia_stratos_hf_8.jpg http://oldconceptcars.com/wp-content/uploads/lancia_rally_037_stradale_concept_6.jpg http://italiancarscene.com/wp-conte...lta-Integrale-Photoshoot-by-Dario-Carbone.jpg Thread officially hijacked.
I like the watch analogy. I was first smitten by the elegant Flaminia coupe, but have, more recently become enchanted by the esoteric Flavia 2000. Even within the context of the widely under-appreciated brand, this model generally flies under the radar.
