    Good afternoon.
New to this forum I have some questions about my late grandpa's wrist watch.

My grandpa was born in 1902 and got the watch as a gift at his Confirmation somewhere around 1917.

I don't know, but I was told wrist watches wasn't that common in Norway at that time.

The case diameter is 30 mm, thickness is approx 8 mm, in 0.925 Silver. Black leather strap.
Clockwork access from behind through a hatch.
    It runs perfect

The dial doesn't look too good, not in mint condition, some scratches but all numbers are present.

There are a 7 digits serial number inside.
    Starts with 7110xxx

It is in my possession and not for sale.

    When was it produced?
    Is it a common watch?
    What would be the value?

    Best regards

    Hi, Welcome!
Judging by the serial no in on the movement (6.7.... million), the watch can be dated between 1923-29.
Rest of the movement seems tired, but might be original. I'm not very well known on these old ones, others might give their views on short notice. Hour hand seems a later replacement.
High res pics of caseback inside and of sides of watch will help.

If you want to wear it: allow for a service by a trusted watchmaker (not: 'the guy at the corner', nor 'Omega in Bienne') and enjoy.

    Cheers

The date of the case is around 1926-7. That is consistent with the movement as noted above.

This is a late 1920's era Omega watch.

In this condition, I don't think it's a high value piece. Looks like it needs a lot of work.

If this were my grandfather's watch, it would be priceless to me.

Looks like a 26,5, a very nice caliber. It is consistent with the informations given by the previous OF poeple. It would be one of the first 26,5.

    Thank you for clarifying, Willem23.

Attached you'll find a picture of the inside of the caseback.

According to a local dealer who examined it a few years ago it was beyond saving.
I'll might try a dedicated watchmaker for a second opinion :)

    Best regards

    Good evening, gatorcpa.

I guess you're right about it's condition but it still tell me the time. I might polish of the case...
For me the value isn't that important, but as you put it, priceless because it belonged to my grandpa.

    Best regards

    Good evening, Mr Pépin.

    Thank you for your information.
    Could you please clarify?
26,5... Could it be inner diameter?
I think it's a neat size that suits me wrist. Proportion is everything!

    Best regards

Yes, 26,5 is both the name of the movement (its reference) and its size (26,5 cm).

A very nice movement but the parts are not easy to find if needed...

The shape of this movement has also been used in bigger sizes for pocket watches (such as the 35,5 movement). 26,5 was a regular size at that time for watches atouts 3 cm.

It's a model reference 710, one of the first models with a caliber 26.5. Considering the serial number of the caliber, it must be one of the first produced.

I did put some info and images of one of mine here https://omegaforums.net/threads/an-early-26-5-sob.12900/#post-147707

A nice small wristwatch from this period. I am not sure that the hands are original however.

Thanks for sharing these photos Tire-comedon.
Gives a hint of what needs to be done to fresh it up if I chose to...
