Grandfather's Seamaster

I tried to register here before I had this fixed up but had issues with the registration. Anyway I just got this back from a watch repair store. All I had them do was to replace the crystal and install a new (cheap) band. I need to see if I like wearing it and then I'll get a better band. I asked about cleaning up the face but didn't want a repaint. The band my grandfather used was a gold fill expanding one. I like it for the convenience but whatever keeps it snug is mostly shot.

My mom purchased this for my grandfather while in Lucerne Switzerland on a college trip. She believes it was 1962. The store was a road with many watch stores. He specifically asked for a Seamaster. He was an engineer by education but did not have a well paying job and was frugal so we find it interesting that he chose an Omega. He did go fishing and boating which may have guided his choice.

I don't have any specific questions other than a good source for quality bands and would be interested to know if anyone has additional info they can share about it.

Thanks!

If you search for straps suggestions on the forum you will have plenty of references. For instance:

Molequin
Torre straps
Two stitch
Hirsch
Watch gecko
Veblenist
ABP concept
Etsy has a large choice as well

Thanks for the info. I'll do some research after wearing it a while.

It's funny because the zoomed in picture shows just how grungy the dial has gotten over the years but from eyeball length it has a pleasing tone.

Really like the dial patina - She's a pretty time piece!
Thank you!

It was worn daily for many decades and reminds me of him. He wore it every day. Seems to keep accurate time but I need to go a week or so and see how it is doing.

Since OP’s asking for « cheap » straps….

How about this vintage style strap for 6 euros:
https://www.ebay.fr/itm/30547357416...2BTJ86&hash=item471fa4d515:g:XpQAAOSw67xmAa7H

Ebay has tons of cheap strap options.
