Hey guys I'm new around here. Hope all is well! My grandfather knows of my interest in timepieces. He brought a pocket watch he has had for decades over my house the other day, and I was wondering if anyone has any more information on the piece? So far, I understand that it is a Hamilton 4992B manufactured in 1957. He received this pocket watch while working for Bell Labs, as part of the team inspecting undersea cables in the Atlantic Ocean. The last picture is him on top of the submersible they used to take pictures of the cables. He said he hung the watch up next to the screen onboard in order to time the pictures the submersible took. I thought it was a cool story connected to a interesting timepiece. Enjoy!
Here's a links I have regarding the 4992B model http://www.mwrforum.net/forums/showthread.php?45036-Hamilton-GCT-24-hr-AN-57401 and here's a couple of pictures of mine
If you will post the serial number that is on the "works" (the movement), not the serial number of the case, I'll try to confirm a date for your Hamilton. I have a suspicion it might be older that 1957.
Serial number list available here for anyone interested: http://library.ihc185.com/catalogs/gelson/index.html Cheers, Al
