I picked up a new watch last week and it's the first non-Omega I've purchased in a while. I've been wanting a Grand Seiko for a while and saw one that really caught my eye at my local AD. It's the limited edition SBGV019, of which only 600 were made. It's powered by the 9F82 high accuracy quartz movement. I've been a mechanical watch guy since I started getting into watches a few years back, but this is the only quartz movement I feel is worthy of being in my collection. It's accurate to within 5 seconds a YEAR. It won't need a servicing for 50 years. The second hand ticks perfectly with absolutely no wobble. It's also finished as well, if not better, than most mechanical movements in the price range. The fit and finish of the case, dial, and bracelet are immaculate. I have never seen such perfection in a watch before. It makes my Aqua Terra blush. The indices and hands are brushed on top and polished at several angles on the sides, causing them to sparkle like diamonds. The dial itself is a gorgeous sunburst champagne color. The bracelet feels silky smooth inside and the watch wears very comfortably. It has a 38mm case, but wears slightly larger than my 38.5mm AT due to the wide lugs and crown guard. This is my favorite watch that I've owned so far, and that's saying a lot for a quartz powered time piece. I think it's cool that Seiko was proud enough to display their 9F quartz movement with a sapphire case back, which is normally reserved for mechanical watches. All in all, this is a damn cool watch that is perfect for any occasion.

It's now got me wondering how hard it would be to add a custom display back to some of the GS quartzes...
