Sometimes hands look very good because they have been repainted or replaced. I sense that this type of thing may not matter to you since you appear to do a lot of parts switching, modding, and optimization. But most vintage collectors would prefer to have everything original.

It depends. I definitely don't mind that type of work if the price is right and the watch is old enough and the condition is bad enough otherwise. But at these price points, I prefer/expect those types of things to be original, so I am definitely confirming those details with both sellers...

Generally, I think it's best to confirm details with experts that don't have a financial stake in the sale.

Moonphase. Date windows are the Devil's spawn. That said I wouldn't kick a Mango out of the house.

This is a strange comment to me. It's almost as if you are suggesting that it's not worth asking a seller if any parts have been repainted or replaced, because they might lie, or might not know, but that other experts (presumably members of this forum, who don't have the watch physically in their possession so can't actually confirm anything), are generally more knowledgeable and more trustworthy. But please correct me if I am mistaken and this isn't what you mean.

Because even if a seller hasn't stated in their listing that any parts have been repainted or replaced, for me it is still very informative to see what they say when asked about it, at the very least to get a feel for who they are as a seller, and to cross reference what they say with my own research.

Ultimately, of course some things may not ever be able to be confirmed in advance when buying a vintage watch sight unseen. But I had multiple people here opine that the SpeedyMoon in very this thread "definitely" had superluminova service/replacement hands, which, upon getting the watch in person, it did not. I'm not saying I always trust sellers 1000% either, but the only way to confirm details with experts who don't have a financial stake in the sale would be to physically acquire the watch and take it to an actual known expert! Short of that, all information is game on to me, even if it is from a non-expert with a financial stake in the sale 😂. Cheers,

Yes, I am strange. 🤪 I will try to refrain from commenting on your threads in the future.

Changing your name from jspdl to watch_my_six seems strange. Specially after using the original name for 2 years. 🤷🏻‍♂️

As does publicizing your assumptions about it in this thread vs. simply asking me about it, perhaps even via PM. But since you're curious, I realized shortly after joining that @jspdl seemed meaningless, and I wanted something more recognizable, so I sent a request to the mods to change it, but they never replied. So after the site upgrade the other day I noticed that we now had the ability to do it ourselves, and it's not like I'm that well known around here, so I changed it. Seems pretty run-of-the-mill to me 🤷‍♂️.

We have had people periodically request a name change either for privacy or because their name was chosen in haste, typically a couple per month. You can now change name once per period of time, currently it’s six months but we might up that to a year or more. All name changes still get submitted to us and don’t happen automatically so if we think there is something dodgy going on or if someone is doing it repeatedly we can reject it, it’s just a more streamlined process.
