That's the gambler's heart getting the better of him. But you're right, that's crazy, especially among vintage watch collectors, well-known bastions of sobriety and sanity:p

No doubt a risk but I would lean towards the watch being the genuine article.

There are some strange people in this world, who are able to see things that we do not.

    Good luck to the gambler.

    Thank-you.

With out any picture of the movement........real or not it's a gamble. Also the hands seem like they may have some degraded patina and may be original but the dial and bezel seem NOS. Why replace the bezel & dial but not the hands. On a positive note, if it's real......someone got a good deal.

Ok as most of you know I am not one of the worlds great photographers, but if I am selling I make an extra effort and reckon that means extra cash.
Poor images I always take as something to hide. Occasionally on another forum guys put up items for sale with no images ???
Having said all that I have in the past taken a gamble but only if the price is low and I suspect that the seller is wrongly listing it, it can work :D

Possibly this was the only 165.024 available on the market and the high-bidder was so hard-up of this model. Furthermore, he may not know there are forums where informed advice is given, freely.

Now, on behalf of a friend I am looking for a good example of that model and I do not see any on the market, currently.

    Thank-you.

I for one like it very much and on a good day with the right person....it could fetch a whole lot more.

Thing with these is the movement doesn't tell you much, even the fake ones have real movements as the Cal 552 can be sourced for less than a quality lapdance.

OK, I'll be the one to ask:

Ash - how do you define a "quality" lapdance from a routine one ?

This appears to be factory-original example but what do you think about its asking price. However, rarely do we come across such an old watch that had never ever been polished.

My friend wants one without a date because he reckons, he can get it cheaper than another with a date. I do not know how true this is.

Is there any difference in price or desirability between one with the candle-stick hands and another with a sword hour-hand?

    Thank-you.

Appreciated and I have asked my friend to visit the website. At the end of the day, he will have to choose one that he really likes. There are several 165.024 on the website, from the cheapest to the most expensive, I can see.

    Thank-you.

The original conditioned military issued demand the highest premium (sword hands). All round the SM300 fluctuate in price greatly and for no particular reason. OmegaMania sold one once for $33,000 that in fact was not even original. You can slap on about any price and a buyer always seems to come out of the wood-work......despite what others say it's a great watch to have in any collection and negativity stems in most cases from those whom do not own one. This watch in question with the 1506 strap is a fair price IMO...also the date model seems at times to be priced higher//best regards!
