It has thankfully turned out fine! The watch is at present with Simon Freese and he thinks it looks straight and original but you never know so I had my fingers crossed.

IlovemySpeedmaster.com estimated this serial at Feb 1966 so it tallies pretty well. I will of course upload the full info there when I get the chance to help with future searches.

Interesting point about it being NAAFI delivered. I would have preferred NASA or RAF of course but this is the next best thing to issued, or at least that is what I am telling myself lol.

Lovely to see it all there in black and white mate. I've been in that situation in which Simon Freese opened and examined my Speedmaster. Very reassuring to have his expert opinion and hear those words "yes it seems to be OK."
    Nice one @padders!:)

Obviously Christmas will have complicated matters but mine took about 6 weeks all in. I got an email last Saturday saying it was all done and being dispatched, but offering no detail so I have been biting my nails a little in case it came back as a DeVille or whatever.

Congrats and great news! I just had the Chicago Omega boutique submit an archives extract request on my behalf for my Speedy. Guessing it will take 2 months or so. My first time requesting one.

If you read the hundreds of posts on the subject, 6 weeks is pretty standard. Sometimes it takes less time in Europe.

Congrats! I also worried a little when I was waiting for my extracts: What if someone had replaced the movement with a non-Speedy movement etc, but it also turned out OK.

    email text as follows:

    'Dear Sir or Madam,

The creation of your extract of the archives has been finalized and your document will now be dispatched.

    With kind regards,

    The Omega Museum Team'

This may be a new thing or perhaps this is only used with on-line orders like mine (from UK) I believe USA orders have to be via a dealer so are presumably handled differently.

the only issued vintage Speedmaster would be the FAP Speedmaster. all others are private purchases. NASA deliveries for sale privately...... very rare. i found one in New Zealand. the Omega Museum bought it. kind regards. achim

And the watch in question, fresh from Mr Freese's finest attentions. To say I am happy with the outcome is an understatement.
