So, talking to MrsCanberra today, and somehow the Singapore GTG came up. Out of nowhere, she said "why didn't you say something? ". I looked at her in amazement - basically I've got permission to come to the next GTG somewhere the whole family can come (and that includes Singapore).

So now the bad news. She asked me how many watches I owned and was distinctly unimpressed. I tried MMMD line on her about 3500 watches, but that didn't fly.

 

You know a little lie won't hurt right?!

 

Patek Philippe has a good line about that: "You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation."

Or you could say it's better to be a watch collector who hangs out on an internet forum than to be chasing skirts at dive bars. Lots of upside in comparison - you're always at home available to the family because you're on the computer, there's less storage space needed than cars / boats / motorcycles, there's pretty good resale, and your fellow collectors are a bunch of nerds who notice a woman because she's wearing a certain watch instead of a skimpy outfit.

 

Do not use the line, "I'm thinking of taking up heroin and hanging out at the strip clubs."
Don't ask me how I know this line doesn't work...

 

This is what happened to me "On the Road to Going Broke" when I used this line ;-(

 

She said "don't lie, as I will check them when weget home".....

 

Lets save the Patek line for when I get a Patek!
