    Greetings everyone,
Is there any book that's considered to be "the book" on vintage Lemania chronographs?
I'm not talking chronos with Lemania movements inside -- I'm talking those with the Lemania brand on their face.

    Thanks and best regards,
    S

There aren't any books specifically and completely on Lemania branded watches, though I'm sure people on this forum could recommend more general reference books that would have Lemania information in them.

My recommendation would be to scour forums for information about them, if you're interested, or ask questions on this forum. People will always be glad to help you understand what you'd like to know.

Is there anything specific you'd like to know? Historical? Perhaps about certain watches from certain eras?

    We'll do what we can.

As @Modest_Proposal states there are no books specifically on Lemania out there that I have ever seen.
An odd essay here and there, but nothing specific.
Lang & Meis is a good book on chronographs in general, but contains no in-depth studies on any particular brand or design.
I do recommend it as general information!
You will also find loads of info on the movements reading up on Omega Saga and AJTT as all the Omega chronographs made from about 1930 up to the 1980s was Lemania watches in Omega suit.
If there are specific references and/or movements I might have some info. PM me with details if needed.
    :)

    Thanks much gents.
I do have an interest in smaller (33-35 mm) Lemania chronographs from the 1940s (or early 1950s), but the ones I have liked so far (and did not acquire) lacked case back markings.
So I wonder if it's something habitual -- and therefore okay-- for Lemania chronographs of that period, or whether they were recased.
    For example:

    Or this one:

I realize it may be easier to post questions when other examples come up -- I guess I could post in the Vintage Omega section ?

Thanks so much for your kind assistance.

Probably the best resource (online) will be the ATG Vintage Watches Lemania forum: http://forum.atgvintagewatches.com/forumdisplay.php?5-Lemania-Watches-Forum-UK

The nature of Lemania's production and their inconsistent, often nonexistent documentation, makes it very difficult if impossible to make a comprehensive tome on the topic. The Lang & Meis book is a good start. Be mindful that many Lemania-branded watches were also produced in nearly identical form for other manufacturers with the exception of the earliest (pre-1930s) products.

One of the biggest problems is that Swatch Group does not seem to want focus on Lemania. Due to this all archives and other papers that might be still in existence are not available.

    Good information, learning something everyday.
With these in ind, did other brands, with or without Chronographs, have Lemania to produce watches with their name on?

Most three handed Lemania watches are badged as such.
The number of different brands having had Lemania made their chronographs or movements is VERY long.

The classic Omega Cosmic moonphase cal 381 is also a Lemania construction.

Cal 381 is based on the Lemania S27/3000 caliber.
Lemania built their own version, cal 3300, without the moonphase section. Omega also lists this variant as a prototype cal 380 that never entered production.
    Cheers!

Wow, can’t wait to find out more.
And what a fitting update, almost 6 years exactly to the day this thread started!

And by the way, I did end up finding a few years later who got that small Lemania chronograph I really liked (posted above). Damn. Should have gotten it first.
