35 year old male in the USA and I don't know anyone my age that wears gold except for a wedding ring. My wedding ring is titanium and cost about $20.
Say what? I think it is personal taste....also I think for omega Rolex other major brands Gold watches have a high price of entry...do not hold value initially
Says who? I often keep them put away so that my wife doesn't get any ideas or if I am feeling sensitive about not wanting to show flash while the economy seems stagnant or worse, but I suppose that beyond that most people would just see a gold colored watch and would not know or care about value. I like them and enjoy them when I can, and I don't see them as out of favor . Here are some. Let's see more.
That's why I like my two-tone so much. Gold for a little bling that matches my great-grandfather's ring and SS for practicality. But wear what YOU like. I love those chunky 70s Seamasters with the angled rings between the dial and crystal. Funny how I like that in a watch but can't stand stanced wheels on a car.
I have an RG JLC Master Calendar and a YG Unicompax on the way. Key is to select understated classic design and to dress down the strap. So I went shell cordovan on the JLC and retired the gator strap to the box. Will apply same strategy to my Unicompax. I will wear both proudly and without shame!
There was a gold speedy for sale here I drooled over for a long time and would have liked to have bought but the wife says we have to have a house. Fashion shifts and my suspicion is fashion has shifted from gold because of cost.
gold is timeless. It seems that gold watches are less popular but i think it is just because of the price. SS versions are just way more reachable/achievable. If i could afford it all of my watches would be Gold yellow gold, rose gold, white gold
This thread says no: https://omegaforums.net/threads/show-us-your-vintage-gold-watches.27621/ I'm partial to rose gold
If 20 something girls in NYC are any arbiters of trend ( there's a strong argument they are ) the only watch to have is gold ( colored )... I feel like a million bucks when I have a gold watch on (although I am a true disciple of Miami Vice!). Also, as the world's Central Banks compete to completely debase their currencies, your gold watch has another function as a store of value!
Being a SS guy mostly but have recently dipped into the gold pool due to all the neat gold watches on here. @styggpyggeno1 s picture above says it all.
