I just bought this Girard Perregaux because..I instantly loved it's look, it has been barely worn( aka almost NOS) the sunburst finish is great, just as the dial. And the price was...being spoiled from Speedies, just close to a 1039 clasp... It came with the original box ( the one in the pictures is my glasses box )and it's cute paper hang tag that states: caliber 640. Didn't get to open it yet but will let my watchmaker do it, pavanis caseopener didn't quite fit :)

I tried to find information on vintage Girards but there are so few sources, it seems to be a quite good movement and the overall finish is nothing short of old seamasters quality.

I couldn't even determine the exact period ( altough 70ies by the design is easy to guess.). Does anyone of you happen to have sources or general info on these watches?
Why are the Girards lacking presence and appreciation, this piece is just gorgeous, hence it's hard to understand why they are not more expensive or discussed.

Okay, pictures or it's not real. The strap doesn't fit too well, I just put it on to see how it wears. input is appreciated.

Next to a Speedy for size comparison. Please ignore the hairy parts.

That is lovely! I have often wondered why they don't get more attention myself... they are pretty good watches, aren't they? I think a funky brown lizard or python strap is called for here. Nice find. Congratulations.

Very nice watch indeed. Amazing condition! It probably wouldn't look good on me personally but still distinctive aesthetics.

Worst case: it fits my wifes wrist perfect :) I'll wear it to see how it feels, it just needs a matching strap. And it's really cool, I actually never wear gold but I'll give this one a try.

Definatly. I can't stop looking at it, the dial has a fantastic sparkel in daylight. Lizard or maybe even some sort of brown suede might fit excellent.

I like the current strap as it fairly well matches the dial's base color, and the stitches seem to fit with the dial's detail.

Ok, I don't really know about the watch, but in high school a friend who was from England introduced me to the Stranglers, and I would often play them as the sun rose after a good night out drinking while the guys down the hall 'zeppelined out'

    (Edit: fixed typo in 'sun')

    Great find!

It really is quite gorgeous. I'm not a gold wearer, either, but yours with the brown dial, sunburst case finish, and incredible condition certainly makes it a keeper in my book  !

I just took delivery of my first GP as well, and I'd also like to know, too, but there doesn't appear to be any place on the interwebs for a serial number look-up.

One GP owner said recently that you can send an inquiry to GP with the SN and get some information that way...

And, coincidentally, I just got a python strap that I installed on my GP when they arrived simultaneously this morning:

..it was in fact the first (thing) song that crossed my mind when I saw the watch :) Yes, I like The Stranglers too, especially that song.

Good idea. As soon as I can get the serial I will contact GP, worth a try.

They're made by KelaranUSA out of Florida; the 'bay is where I got this one.

This company was 'The Squirrel's ( @ulackfocus ) :( favorite source for straps... prices are amazingly low for what you get...
