Gold window moon man

Anyone know if it’s possible to get your hands on the window displays and what happens when they are done being displayed? Local OB has the full size as well as 2 desk size and I just picked up an Apollo 8 from them but didn’t think to ask about it. Want to make sure it’s not some ridiculous request.

Your only hope is pretty much to lurk eBay, and hope one shows up for sale.

Not ridiculous, lots of advertising window & counter boards end up in dumpsters. I'd suggest either calling (especially if you are acquainted with one of the sales staff) and indicate that you are a customer and would be interested in having it when they are done with it, or better yet, as you are a known customer, go in and have a quiet word with the owner/manager. Sometimes just asking will get what you want. Others may also have designs on one of them, so do it soon......

These props belong to the distributor/manufacturer and they usually want them back, I doubt any of these gold moon statues will be thrown in the trash. Call up and ask if you can obtain one, the worst they can say is no.

It is indeed possible. I remember seeing someone on the forum posting a photo with the gold statue at his home.

Your best chance is to talk to a Boutique that knows you well/you have a relationship with.

I already got one of the desk size pieces. Unfortunately my AD did not have any of the bigger size. Does anyone know what it is made of? Not as have as a kind of metal, but at the same time neither it is light as plastics would be.

I just remembered that the old visitor center at JSC used to have a machine that if you put a dollar in (or however much it cost) it would injection-mold on demand a ~6" moon man statue out of blue waxy-plastic. Of course, the new Space Center Houston is practically one giant gift shop, but they don't have those any more.

They gave them out as gifts at an Apollo 11 event, and they had them as decorations on the tables, which many people also took (one guy was running around stuffing them into a backpack... tacky), so I’m sure that 1) they’ll continue to show up on eBay and 2) they’ll probably give you a small one at some point if you ask.
