Hi everyone, I recently picked up a lot of vintage omegas, having only seen some pictures. Also included was a gold toned automatic which after receiving the watches turned out to be a 166.033, at first I thought it was gold plated but then I found a mark or stamp on the back. I know normally omega doesn’t stamp on the back but since I don’t have the tools to open the watch, I’m now unsure whether it is solid gold or gold plated. Any thoughts on the mark/stamp?
it's solid gold. I don't recall what kind of gold so I think other members can chime in on that and for sure opening up the back will tell.
Swiss gold marks. But I don’t see that particular mark, there. With Swiss marks, there is usually also a decimal purity mark, and a responsibility mark. I’d like to see inside the case back.
It does look like a Helvetia maybe? and I think the x should be a letter. Maybe a G on my case from Geneva? I hope to find someone who can open the case soon so I’ll now for sure.
Same watch, different question: the reference number on the back says 166.033, now i can only seem to find watches with this reference number and ‘de Ville’ on the dial. My watch doesn’t have the de ville mark on the dial. Now you might think it is a redial because of that, but the omega and automatic font seem perfectly fine to me, and the rest of the dial seems original too.. Any thoughts as to whether you guys think the dial is original? P.s. not the smartest setting for the hands but the watch is at the watch maker right now and this is the only decent picture of the dial I have. Kind regards
