Going on 6 years now . . .

What are your guy's thoughts on servicing? Dealer assured me it was serviced before shipping to me. Runs like a dream. However, I keep hearing conflicting opinions. Some say every 10 years. Others say only when something major goes wrong. I'm leaning towards the latter myself. As you can see from the pics it still looks to be in excellent condition.

If you aren't getting it wet, and it's running fine, I would let it go and keep wearing it.

The 'counter' point to that, is I've seen quite a few watches that seem to 'run fine' but have a 1/2-normal amplitude. IMO, its worth firing up a free timegrapher app and checking out the amplitude to see if it is actually 'running fine' to make that decision.

That said, its a common enough movement even if you wear it to destruction, you'll be able to find replacement parts reasonably easily enough for the next 10-20 years.

I don't know what their policy is now or if it was different among the boutiques, but twice I went to an OB and they took my watch in, checked for nominal water resistance (not 300m), checked it's timekeeping and amplitude, some other things free of charge while I waited. It at least confirmed my 2298.80 needed service at the time. They even replaced some missing collars on the bracelet for that watch. Worth a try, if you really want to know the running condition. Six years is approximately when some service anyway, some wait ten or more, others until it's noticeably "broken" or not running. Some have more of a concern regarding water resistance and want to stay ahead of that. I think only you know how often you've worn and ran the watch or if water resistance is a concern and can make the judgment. Also consider what the alleged service six years ago might or might not have entailed. That's how I would approach it.

I had a 2531.80 as my daily for 19 years. I generally serviced about every 5 years. It ran like, uh...clockwork.

Good solid advice all around. Thank you all for chiming in. I should've mentioned that I wear this piece sparingly--mostly on special occasions or on a day (or night) out on the town--and take good care in avoiding situations where it may get dinged. I have my Seiko Arnie and G-Shocks for that lol.

Very nice watch.

Regarding servicing - if you are planning on eventually sending it to Omega Service Center for service, you can just wait for it to start acting up. They will replace the worn parts for the same price, regardless of how much unnecessary wear was introduced by longer than optimal service frequency. The watch will come back as good as new.

Wear it for a while and see if any issues start occurring. If it works fine, leave. Of course if you want a better piece of mind, then get it service at Omega. They will also polish back to factory standards and replace any worn parts on it. That way you will get your watch in brand new condition.

That looks awesome for the price! I also got this on my SMP wishlist. As for servicing, I agree with most of the advice here to just keep wearing the watch and get it serviced when you start experiencing issues.
