    A friend of mine asked me to dig through my box of bits and find a nice old strap for this watch. Thing is, it's bugging me. I have the vaguest recollection of a company that used the name GMT and seem to remember that they were Indian made. Does this ring any bells with someone?

    It's a cute thing if correct:

    If that is indeed an ATP then that's interesting as I've never come across the brand and and seen a read a good deal about the ATP watches.

    Might be worth a post over on the military watch resource forum, there's a good few ATP collectors there and they could be interested in this one's excistence I should imagine.

    It doesn't look like a franken to me and certainly movement, dial lay out, case etc .very much in line with my old Timor ATP which I stupidly sold.

    It does seem correct but I know I have seen images of this watch somewhere. The list of ATP (Army Trade Pattern for anyone reading who didn't know) makers seems to be fairly set (I know there are arguments) and "GMT" isn't one of them.

    I can tell you this much:
    Screw down caseback;
    Unsigned movement;
    "ATP" and number appear engraved (and very well done);
    Below the engraving on the case back is a model number 5396.

    I just have in the back of my mind that "GMT" had something to do with India. Was this watch sold off after the war and ended up redialed?

    Do expand, @bubba48 ..... What makes you say it's wrong, and do you know where the GMT brand came from?

    Perhaps you're thinking of HMT?

    I may well be .... It's just you can imagine how hard it is to search a watch with "GMT" on the dial.

    I'll probably see the owner of this today and give it back ... shame I can't tell him anything definitive about it other than some people say it's not correct.

    Never heard of a military GMT (http://www.bobsy.name/ATPs/Main.html); moreover the engraving on the caseback is anomalous IMO

    Well, I met up with the owner at a viewing just now and returned his watch ... he's fine with it not being a true ATP as he's bought it to wear and likes the look (the man's owned more watches over the years than I've worn).
