Hi OF members I have an opportunity to purchase a really nice looking Pepsi 16700 for a decent price but having looked into the difference between that and the 16710 I'm thinking it may be better to hold out for the 16710 because of the 3rd time zone option. Then again, the 16700 has the quickset. I would appreciate any advice/thoughts as to which is considered the better purchase. Maybe it's not that straightforward, I don't know, but any thoughts appreciated. Thanks in advance
My vote is for the best condition watch that your budget will allow you to purchase. Assuming the condition between the two nearly the same I also vote for the 16700. It has a true quickset date, which is very nice, especially when the watch is worn in a rotation, and was produced in much smaller numbers than the 16710. Good luck with your decision, they are both fantastic watches.
I have owned both references and have to agree with @sky21, 16700 has the most desirable feature, which is the date quickset...and no,16710 is not a true quickset. But then again, I never needed a 3rd timezone either. It's also a rarer reference model as well due to it's limited production run.
My vote goes to the 16700. I went from 1675 to 16710 to 16700. Everyday durability of a sapphire crystal (unlike plastic of 1675 which I had to baby), useable lume, and ease of use of the direct quickset date, and old enough to be interesting.
My vote goes to the....16710! Yes the quickest is , well, quick, but you can't go back with it. With the 16710, you can change the date backwards without damaging the movement. Never try this with a 16750 or 16700. Pretty damn handsome too!
I recently joined the 16710 club and I’m thrilled. I like being able to set the GMT hand independently. Aside from the modern GMT, I think the only models where that is possible are the 16710 and 16760. Someone will surely correct me if I am mistaken.
To me third time zone has been convineant a few times for short trips. For example, if I'm only spending two days on a time zone I use the bezel for the gmt function, more than that I set the gmt hand. Let's say I go to Europe, I set the hands to Spanish time, if I visit or have a layover in London I will adjust the bezel for London but keep the hands in main Europe. if I travel to LA but have a layover or connection in Chicago. I'll have one time set on eastern and the other on pacific time, but I'll use the bezel only for central time while at the airport etc As to what primary time I set it'll also depend on stay. If I'm more than 2 days away I'll have the primary time on local and set the gmt to reflect home, if 2 days or less I keep home on primary and gmt on local. I currently live in Detroit which is on eastern time but within a short drive from central time so it is quite common for me to switch times on bezel without touching the hands. I used to work at an international firm that had a base in London, Miami, LA, San Diego, Aspen, Chicago, Atlanta and New York. Back then all my gmt watches where set for the gmt hand to give me European time, and I'd use the bezel for traveling within the US propperties. It was helpful. As a pilot my brother always had one time on departure location, one on final destination and the Bezel on local as he traveled through time zones or layovers. Same I do if I have several connections on a long trip. So, it's useful to me. More usefull than quick date set.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to provide comment. I was originally looking at a 16710 to wear on a more regular basis (I already have a 16750 which I don’t tend to wear during the week). 16700 looking like a good option if I decide to get myself another GMT (only saying that because I’m also thinking about a Seadweller and funds are limited!). I don’t really need a 3rd time zone and the quickest appeals. If I go ahead with the 16700 I promise to post some pics.
