·Good afternoon everyone,
I'm selling my G-P ref. 22209 made by Universal specifically for the American market, you can tell by the scales being in miles and the movement stamped with the US import code 'GXM'. These kind of chronographs were made by Universal Geneve for other brands using the UG case and serial numbering system. It's powered by the Universal cal. 281 and made sometime between 1938 and 1941(according to most sources).
The watch works fine and the seconds hand resets back to zero, the only issue I've had was the hour counter only advances and does not reset at all. I bought this watch off of a watchmaker on the west coast who took very good care of it, I suspect it's been sitting around for years with very little use. I'm fairly confident the case still has it's original finish, the blue steel hands look amazing! The dial was originally white with blue, red and black scales but now has a very nice consistent copper coloured sun tan, the only thing I've had replaced on it is the crystal. I find this watch quite interesting because it's about 34mm (which some may consider small) but has large pushers that give it character and the oyster style case back. This watch is sold without a bracelet.
There is a little crisp stamp of an X on the back of the bottom left lug. I'm not too sure what it is or represents and would be happy to find out if any of you know.
Summary:
---
Brand: Girard Perregaux by Universal
Case no. / Caliber: 22209 / UG 281
Case size / between the lugs: 34mm without crown / 18.5mm (closer to 19mm if anything)
---
Price: $2,000 USD
