I was gifted this watch today. Trying to learn more about it. Bracelet is broken and the crystal is cracked. Not a big issue for being gifted a watch. But is it a real Speedmaster or fake? If real what direction can I get on what I have here. Thank you, John
It's real - ref. 35115000. Unfortunately it looks like the serial number on the case back is mostly gone. Cheers, Al
The # is there but hard to read. #55724794 Is there a serial number look up site for these newer watches?
Okay good - I tried blowing it up but could only read a couple of numbers. There's no public site for looking this up, but I have access to an Omega site that allows me to look it up...confirms the model: Serial number: 55724794 Article ref: 35115000 Watch is legit, and in fact I've just finished servicing one of these. Based on the condition and the broken crystal, it will need a full service, replacement crystal, likely a complete reseal to be water resistant, and repairs to whatever is broken on the bracelet. But once done it will be a great watch, with a very reliable movement - it is an Omega Cal. 1152, which is a variation of the ETA 7750. Cheers, Al
Archer, you da man!!! Is it common for folks to ditch the bracelet and do a nato style bands? Trying to set the date and learn more about the operation. Are there any online sources for instructions etc??
Lot of people go nato or leather strap, but the bracelet might be a very easy fix, so I wouldnt worry. Ask the watchmaker what he/she can do when you bring it in for service. As for instructions, I'd search google for "omega speedmaster cal. 1152" and see what you find.
Check out the WRUW (what are you wearing) today thread. You'll see thousands of pics of Speedmasters on all sorts of straps.
