In a trailer for his new movie, Hunter Killer, clearly wearing a Planet Ocean. Hopefully won’t be too lame, maybe a little derivative of The Hunt for Red October?
hmm. interesting. I though he was endorsed by Festina. https://www.festina.com/en/gerard-butler-time-to-live-3/
I met a sub commander a few years back. Very distinguished gentleman, very confident, but with humility and an openness one might not expect from a man with armageddon at his fingertips. He was soon to retire from the Navy and the SSBN (Ohio-class missile boat) he captained. He was in his dress whites and wearing a gold Rolex DD. Pictures of him in earlier days showed him wearing either a Submariner or SD4K. Couldn't get a good enough look from the pictures to be sure which. I'm eager to see Hunter Killer. I'll hold off on judgement about Gerard Butler as the sub commander until I see the movie. I like him as an actor, but in specific roles. I think this role may be a stretch for him, but we'll see.
Looks like a totally silly movie in the vein of Olympus has Fallen or White House Down, but I'll still see it because I saw both of those movies, and have proven to be a sucker for these big-budget Army/Navy recruiting films Also, is that not a 8500-series PO? If so, must be a personal watch...
If he is the skipper and is a Commander, it is probably a fast attack sub. Not quite an Armageddon capable boat, but nasty none the less.
Yup, one of the new Virginia-class fast attack boats. In the movie it's the Arkansas, SSN-800, which is actually on order now for the U.S. Navy. The book on which it was based, Firing Point, was much better. But how often does a movie eclipse the book anyway?
