After going through about 3 cheap Target wall clocks over the years, I'm looking for some recommendations here. My garage's daytime temps get into 110+ degrees Fahrenheit for weeks on end in the summer. Can be battery or A/C, would prefer analog but digital is totally fine. Want it to be a wall clock for easy reading at a distance. Just want something that others may have found to actually last and not get fried in high temps. Thanks all!
Get yourself a marine engine room clock. http://www.skipjackmarinegallery.co...uge-valve-manu-co-with-seth-thomas-works.html
Thanks all! Got myself down an ebay rabbit hole looking at GE school clocks, then Russian clocks (!?), and on and on. Yes, a/c power with a sweep second hand would've be B.A., but I determined... ehhh... basta cosi! Went with this because 25% off, free shipping, a warranty, and.. oh who am I kidding, it's a black dial, come on!! If it gets fried, it gets fried. #itssopurty!
if it gets fried just replace the movement and keep the dial. you can even get a radio controlled movement for less than $20 and never worry about setting it.
@Togri v. 2.0 I guess I could've waited a little longer for suggestions! @micampe Yeah this clock face (if it's as nice as the photo) will be a keeper, and I'll try to replace the movement if/when it needs it.
About 30 years ago I made a wall clock for a local car dealer and good friend with the hours marked by sketches of various models the dealership specialised in. It's needed just one new movement (dirt cheap) in all that time and still is on the wall of his current racing motorcycle [*] racing workshop. Temperatures probably don't get over 40C but the principle of just replace the movement works well. [*] Very, very fancy racing motorcycles.
Quick update—the clock arrived today, and if I had spent an extra moment reading the description, I’d have known it has a sweep second hand. Quite a nice surprise, and it’s as nice in real life as I’d hoped from the photos. Not sure if that affects battery life, so we’ll see. Now to move the nail a bit further from the garage door!
