Well this thread take unexpected turn........
😕. But rather become controversy and sleepless night (at least for me), let's do some investigation ala CSI.
First we need a benchmark comparison which luckily I got from old photo in kstar auction last year.
Second we need a parameter guidance on top of benchmark, which I shamelessly take from the famous Desmond article of MOY test and several suggestion from this thread about script thickness which is uncopiable until now (except for few Hoi's friend with double inking technique).
Third we need up and close script picture. Luckily I use this chance to test Galaxy S4 maximum zoom capability to handle macro shoot so this thread will stay true to its title.
Lastly we need 'before cleaning' picture to see any trace of condition before the Windex solution do its job in the dial.
This is the benchmark picture from kstar, I think we are fully in agreement that it is a factory original untouched dial.
Next let's check the script close up of my RG Connie. On the side note taking this close up picture using max zoom capacity of Galaxy S4 (which is coincidentally 4 times) is very difficult. Autofocus took long time to get the right focus and once it find the focus the phone has difficulties to lock it. Slight movement will make it in focus finding frenzy up to 10-15 seconds. So unless you are really have very steady hand or in dire need, to hve this up close focus, My recommendation stick with below 3 x magnification.
Upper script close up:
Analysis:
The script pass MOY test easily. The script also had 3D thickness which usually only found in original. Two things make us suspicious: rounded fonts, which in original should have tipped end, AND uneven thickness of the script. Some letters look thick while the others look thin.
Lower script close up:
. Analysis: The Constellation script showed 3D thickness and right neat font type. However it also missing the tipped end at letter C, n,s, t, l and i.
Now for last check, let's take a look to 'before cleaning' picture (It was taken using my poor old point and shoot camera)
While hazy, you could still see the tipped end both in upper and lower script. Furthermore the upper script has very even script.
Verdict: I believe Mike's opinion is correct. It is original dial and script. However the cleaning process has taken little toll to the script, especially to the tipped end. Unless you magnify it with close up lens, you will not notice it. But nothing is too small for Ulackfocus tiger eyes
👍 . Now we can take this case to the rest adn I can sleep well again.
Closing: A $3.5K question. Would I clean up the dial again if I knew it will alter the script a bit? A definite yes. It is really undistinguished when you wear it. In the other hand, the original smudge is always haunted your eyes whenever you see the contrast with a very clean and bright PG case when you wear it.
Of course some will not agree with me. But as I said before, I rest my case.
Thank you......
